The town of Primorsko (population: 2459) is a climate resort and a center for youth tourism. It is situated 5 km north of the village of Kiten, 55 km south of Bourgas and 422 km southeast of Sofia. It lies on a cape jutting out between the Stamopolo bay and the Dyavolski (Devil’s) bay. The old Turkish village, which once existed there, bore the name of Chenger and later on that of Kyupria.
Primorsko is famous for its graceful arcing ten-kilometer sandy beach, the longest and prettiest on the coast. The resort is a haven for the tourists who flock here in droves to avail themselves of the numerous trade union rest homes, hostels, student dorms and campgrounds.

The climate of the region is Continental-Mediterranean and this is a precondition for a warm and sunny summer with refreshing daytime breeze and relatively high night temperatures. History: The village of Sveti Vlas (St. Vlas) is believed to have been founded by the Thracian tribe of Larisi in the 2nd century BC. At that time, it reportedly bore the name of Larisa. It was renamed ‘Sveti Vlas’ in the 14th century AC after the patron saint of cattle growers and merchants. During Ottoman rule (late 14th-19th century AC), the village appeared in administrative registrars as ‘Manastir’ (’Monastery’) or ‘Kyuchuk Manastir’ after the five monasteries in the vicinity of the village. Unfortunately, none of the monasteries has been preserved up to present days. Officially, it restored its name of Sveti Vlas after the reunification of the Bulgarian state in 1886.

The Varna’s Railway station is located in the southern part of the town. Varna is connected to all the main railways in the country. There are express trains to Sofia and Plovdiv that reach for 7 and 4:30 hours respectively. Seats are limited so it is advisable to book sleeping car tickets a week before.
